  Schendel Lawn and Landscape recently moved their Lawrence, KS business operations to a property next to ours. They have proven to be a bad neighbor. They take the refuse from their business and dump it on the property. Then once it's accumulated into a very large pile, they burn it. This is of course terrible to live next to, and it is illegal according to the Official county code of Douglas County which states in Chapter 6 Fire Safety 6-102 that, "a) Agricultural open burning. The open burning of vegetation such as grass, woody species, crop residue, and other dry plant growth for the purpose of crop, range, pasture, wildlife or watershed management (this includes the burning of routine brush piles accumulated from the property);provided, however, brush, limbs, and OTHER MATERIALS BROUGHT FROM OFFSITE SHALL NOT BE BURNED." I have spoken to the owner of the property, and at first he said it was a one time thing, but when it happened again, I again spoke to him, and he basically said that he doesn't care, and that I should get used to it. He also suggested that I move. I had the Wakarusa Township Fire Chief come out and he agreed it is illegal burning, but he said that there is a gray area when it comes to enforcement. I'm still working on it, but in the meantime, please do not use this company. Whatever they take off your property goes to the property next to us, and is eventually burned, and ends up in the lungs of myself, my wife, our children, and our neighbors.

  Mr. Morgan—We understand your concerns about the burning, but it isn’t being done by Schendel Lawn & Landscape. We rent this property, and it is the owner that is doing the burning. All of the brush we collect from our customers’ properties is taken to the city’s facilities for recycling; none of it is burned. We would be happy to talk with you about this.   Been in my home for 5 years. Started with Schendel in fall of 2020 and my yard has never looked better!! Finally a summer with no clovers! Technicians are professional and communicate well. They have beeen great communicating when it’s safe for our dogs to go back outside after each application. Highly recommend!!!

  We could not be happier with the results of the Schendel Weed Zero program!!! Since we started using Schendel for weed and feed applications last year our lawn has really started to look fantastic! They even helped us out with emergency mowing when our mower was out for service, the people are always professional and helpful, the value for what they do is really a great bargain - Highly recommend the Schendel Lawn and Landscape folks & the Weed Zero program!!!
