I never finished cleaning up the fall leaves due to a really wet fall and an earlier then expected winter , before I knew it was spring time and my yard was a complete mess. I called a friend and she recommended Greater Ithaca Landscaping and I made a call to them. They came out promptly and did an awesome job , I was completely satisfied and would recommend them to anyone needing lawn care. Thanks again for an awesome job! Elliot.

Dan loves raking dead grass off of my lawn. He does it with a smile on his face every time. I don't mind paying the extra money, but I wish he would stop tracking grass into my house when he takes beers out my fridge.

We hired Dan this April given his crew last year had done a nice job with mulching and landscape maintenance at our new home . He came to the house to view the job and discuss the project and he provided a quote for the work requested. Dan told us he couldn’t come until May and we waited for over a month., finally reaching out in mid-May to inquire about his timeline after not hearing from him. He arrived on 5/20 with one man to start the work. He implied he may not have calculated enough mulch for the job and was told let us know and we will pay for the additional material. He was told this more than once. The work day came to an end at 3:30 (they arrived at 8:30 am) and the man he left on-site, left for an hour lunch. One third of the job was left incomplete in front of the house. We reached out by text to tell him the work completed so far looked good and to ask if he was returning to finish the project the next day. He was asked how much more mulch he felt was needed to finish the project. Dan did respond by text, stating we had exceeded the original quote and he wanted to return to finish the job in July because he had other people calling to have work done and he needed to catch up. It is noteworthy to mention that at no time did he knock on the door during the course of the day or at the end nor did he call to state he had a problem with the job and had underestimated the scope and cost. Also relevant, the estimate for the work he had completed had increased when no extra material brought on-site. We could understand if we had asked him to do additional work and were told we had to wait until July but we had not; we were just asking him to finish our project and honor his word! We then reached out by phone and he wouldn’t answer. We requested that he contact us so we could discuss further. Shortly after that message was left Dan appeared in front of our home to pick up his equipment. When approached he became nasty and argumentative. Dan refused to speak to us and was hollering in the street as he slammed his equipment and doors. Dan stated the job was more than he thought, screamed for us to look at what he did, proclaimed we got a deal and if we wouldn’t give him an extra $100 he didn’t care he was done. We tried to get him to talk rationally and he refused. We asked him to please talk to us so the situation could be resolved and he refused. Dan was told we had no problem paying him for the work completed. He again stated he had other customers. We offered to pay him for the work completed on the spot and he said NO and sped off. This whole encounter is sad. Some of Dan’s biggest issues are his failure to communicate, unprofessional communication, and failure to complete jobs as stated. It is unfortunate Dan chose to respond in the manner he did when questioned about his work. His attitude and lack of communication skills will be his demise if he continues to treat customers poorly. Fact Check: Dan you were not here 9 hours - 6 man hours spent on the job. How did it take an additional 3 to load your truck and drive when you are in town? Perhaps, you should provide written proposals clearly stating time will be added for gathering tools, materials and driving to job sites. No one had an issue with your employee taking a break. That information was provided to further highlight actual time spent on the project, on-site. If your employee was encountering issues clearing the space, that break may have been the perfect time to contact us to inform us there were unforeseen problems, additional materials needed, additional cost, and your need to return to complete the job you were hired to do. You were repeatedly asked to let us know if you needed more materials before you even started. Again, a written contract/proposal would help eliminate these issues. Asking you how the scope and cost of the project increased without any communication from you is a reasonable request-One you ignored, along with texts and a call. We never screamed at you and disrespected you Dan., the way you did to us.

    Response from the owner

Rj and mj had a budget of $500 and I said I would try to stay within that budget. The total man hours spent on the Olson’s job was 9 hours (employee 6 + my 3 working on site) including travel time and loading the materials needed. I personally had three hours on this job in the 90 degree heat in which we were digging gravel out of a garden bed and replacing it with mulch. We couldn’t use our equipment as we planned because of tree roots under the stone that we couldn’t see and would of damaged the trees if we used our equipment. Possibly killing the tree. I also expect my employees to take a break when it is in the 90’s and if they have to go get food and a drink then that is fine with me. When I notified Mr Olsen that we were already over the budget I could tell that by his reply that he was expecting the job to be completed for the $500 that he wanted to pay. Not the $1,000 (total) that the job required to be completed. I decided that it was better to cut my losses and walk away from the job before I had to reach into my pocket to work for the Olson’s. Not everyone can afford our services but I try to work within the budgets I’m given. I encourage the Olson’s to post pictures of the work completed so people can see what $600 would get themselves. If anyone would like to see the text message I received from Mr Olson. I can be reached at 6075923953 The great customers we have make it easy to walk away from the bad ones
