I had a review on here but Dave obviously paid to have it removed. This guy is a crook, don’t even consider hiring him. He doesn't quote jobs he just shows you a sheet explaining his rates. Then when the bill comes your stuck paying 5x the industry standard. Go ahead and pay to remove this review Dave, I will just make another one.

If you are considering contacting Dave’s Tree Care in Owatonna, MN…DON’T! My experience went just like Bill’s and Bev’s and Christine’s - See photo attached. Save yourself frustration, time and money and find someone else: A tree fell over in my side yard. I contacted 3 tree businesses Boyum Tree Services, From the Ground Up and Dave’s Tree Care. The first two reps came out before Dave and quoted me 300$ and 350$ to cut up and remove the entire tree, both of which I mentioned to Dave when he arrived. He didn’t give an estimate (see what his estimates are worth to Bill and Bev and Christine) but he knew my neighbors and their families. My neighbor and I de-limbed the trunk and crown of the tree so that all was remaining was the trunk. I called Dave to take it. He arrived with one helper to do the job. He had “rented” a front loader (I later found out his normal M-F gig is a tree trimmer for the city of Owatonna and has access to most anything tree related). They used the front loader to drag the trunk to the street (15 paces from where it lay) and cut it into manageable pieces with a chain saw and then stood waiting for friends to arrive – approximately 1 hours time. All the pieces fit into the back of two regular bed pickups. The acquaintances of his gladly took the wood to split for winter burning. At seeing this and knowing the job was nearly done I went outside to greet these folks and ask Dave for the balance we owed. He said he didn’t know exactly and we’d have to wait for an invoice, but he did say the front loader he had rented was 100$/hr. An hours work, 10 cuts - maybe, and the rental – I figured 200$, which makes sense from the other two estimates minus the work my neighbor and I had already done. A week later the non-itemized invoice arrives in the mail for $531.51! I call Dave to discuss it and ask how he arrived at said number. Our conversation is highlighted when he says that he charges 140$/hour per man and that doesn’t include machinery. Waiting by the road for friends to pick up wood constitutes as work valued at 140$/hour for two people. I told him this was a ridiculous rate and he should be up front with telling potential customers that. He justified his rate by saying how dangerous tree work is and expensive to insure...even though our tree was already laying on the ground, naked as a flag pole. Long story short I get nowhere. My wife calls him back that evening and has a conversation with him that ends in him telling her to just pay what we thought the job was worth. So we sent him a check for 225$. A week later we have a message on our machine telling us that we are short the difference and that he is prepared to take the “next steps” – veiled threats at taking us to court (see Christine’s story). So we talk again over the phone and we again express our opinion of the invoice and he tells us that this situation is our fault and we’re just a couple of people “who don’t pay our bills”. This is when we find reviews of “others” with very similar customer experiences. Fast-forward to the next month invoice that arrives in the mail with the original balance plus 1.5% interest. In the end we take the high road and we pay the bill and write this review to save everyone else the hassle. There should be NO SURPRISE TREE WORK BILLS! I'd rather cut my trees with a spoon than work with him again.

After the big storm we had, I had a couple big trees down. I called a company and they never showed up. I called Dave's and they were on the spot and did an excellent job. Highly recommended!!
