  I hired Jim Alexander to fix a drainage issue for a retaining wall that was not completed properly by the house's previous owner. His crew installed gravel and a masonry sealer on the cinder block. They did not, however, install a membrane behind the wall to cover the gaps in the curved masonry structure, even though I discussed that as likely necessary from an earlier conversation I'd had with the mason who'd originally built the wall for the previous owner. Jim insisted he knew what he was doing after 20 years in the business and didn't think a membrane was called for (he implied he'd never used one before). After the first rain following his crew's work, I had just as much seepage underneath the wall as before, only now I was out $3200. Jim agreed verbally in January to come back out and install the plastic membrane if I purchased one. I did, at the cost of another $400. It is still sitting on my porch more than two months later, and he has refused to call me back since January. I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint, which he ignored for the 30 days he had to respond. As a result, he has a BBB rating of C+ now. Given this experience, I strongly recommend potential customers stay well clear of Alexander Stonework and Landscaping. Should they contact me and make this right, I'll add an update. In the mean time, I'm exploring what other actions I can take.
